This page provides three methods for viewing NOSA Observing Systems on Google Earth.
If you don't have Google Earth, download it here.
Method One: Click on an offline link, to download a KMZ file which allows you to view data without having to reference it through the Internet.
This method is recommended for repeatedly accessing the same data and for the large observing systems listed below.
Large Observing Systems:
Global Historic Climate Network Precipitation Stations,
Global Historic Climate Network Temperature Stations,
National Weather Service-COOP Observing Stations,
NOAA Research-Citizen Weather Observer Program,
NOAA Research-IOOS Drifting Buoys.
Method Two: Download a KML file which references data dynamically through the Internet. Click on an online link to view an individual observing system or click here to view all NOSA observing systems available in Google Earth. This method is recommended if you want the most current data.
Warning: This method can be slow for the large observing systems listed above.
Method Three: Download a KML file with all Observing Systems per Line Office.
Collaborative Networks
NASA
NOAA Fisheries
NOAA Satellites and Information
NOAA Research
National Weather Service
National Ocean Service
All Line Offices
After downloading an Observing System: Zoom in on an observatory and click its icon for a link to the observing system homepage and, when available, a "Get the Data" link for that observatory.
When you exit Google Earth, you will be prompted to save the file to your Google Earth "My Places" folder.
