The information in the enterprise architecture can be viewed from many perspectives and it can satisfy
many needs. Architectural users include senior managers and budget analysts, system architects and
designers, observing system owners and operators, marine sanctuary managers, IT managers, organizational
analysts, and so on. These individuals require high-level summary information, detailed data, and all
levels in between. These demands are met through the creation of conceptual views, logical analyses,
physical implementations and the use of the database of information.
If the manager has questions such as:
- Which users and stakeholders are impacted if we eliminate a particular instrument from a particular observing system?
- Is there a gap in NOAA's ability to measure any particular environmental parameter?
- What observing systems are owned by a particular line office?
- What is the Climate, Coastal, or Ocean observing system and what is the geographical coverage of these instruments/platforms?
- What observing systems are supporting our ability to measure the heat content of the ocean (or other scientific or societal query)?
- What additional observing systems do we need to answer this particular question?
- Which organizations operate buoys and where are they located?
- Which observing systems measure a particular environmental parameter?
- What were the acquisition costs of all observing systems associated with a certain strategic goal and what is their recurring cost?
- What is the geographic coverage of a particular observing system?
- How does this coverage compare with stated requirements?
- How does the NOAA observing system fit within the global system for this parameter (e.g., GCOS, IOOS, World Weather Watch, etc.)?
- Display all observing systems within a particular marine sanctuary.
- Does NOAA operate any observing systems that measure ocean carbon and if so, where are the platforms located?
- Can I track the movement of a particular drifting buoy?
- I need to measure the snowfall in Montana; does NOAA have any snowfall observing systems there?
- Display the geographic coverage of a particular observing system.
- Display the NOAA locations that observe a particular environmental parameter?
